The SCAN Self Assessment Program is another method outside of the SCAN Onsite or Immersive Audits, which enables a SCAN member’s supply chain (suppliers/factories) to evaluate their security practices and procedures using SCAN’s self-audit tools. Corrective Actions will be assigned to all non-compliances found during the audit and a report be provided and will be valid for one (1) year. Program benefits include:
- Identifying Vulnerabilities: It helps uncover potential weaknesses and gaps in the organization’s current security measures, enabling the ability to address them proactively before they can be exploited.
- Enhancing Security Posture: By regularly assessing processes, one can continuously improve and adapt security practices to evolving threats and best practices.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensures that the organization meets SCAN’s requirements and industry standards, reducing the risk of non-compliance penalties.
- Resource Optimization: Helps in allocating resources more efficiently by focusing on high-risk areas and implementing targeted improvements.
- Risk Management: Provides a clearer understanding of the risks the organization faces, allowing for more effective risk management strategies.
- Employee Awareness and Training: Highlights areas where additional training or awareness programs may be needed, fostering a culture of security within the organization.
- Incident Preparedness: Improves ability to respond to and recover from security incidents, minimizing potential damage and downtime.
- Strategic Planning: Informs strategic decisions by providing a detailed understanding of the organization’s security landscape, helping to align security initiatives with business objectives.
There are two types of SCAN self assessments available for a SCAN Member or Factory to select from. Please review the descriptions and benefits of each type:
-
Option 1 - SCAN Factory Self Evaluation: This self-evaluation allows an organization to complete the assessment, submit it to the SCAN portal, and receive a system evaluation of the information provided. Please note that this is a voluntary self-evaluation and is not intended to be shared with other organizations. Additionally, SCAN members will not have access to your self-evaluation report for this type of self-audit. By participating in this self-evaluation, the following will apply:
- A small evaluation preparation fee of $99 will be required. This fee will be collected upon submission of the self-evaluation to the system. This evaluation helps familiarize your organization with the SCAN audit criteria and best practices, mimicking the standard SCAN Onsite Audit template.
- An optional 4-hour training course on Security Awareness and Training, as per CTPAT program requirements, will be available at a discounted price of $28 USD. Link to the SCAN Security and Threat Awareness online training.
- The self-evaluation helps identify existing non-conformances in your supply chain security areas before an onsite audit takes place.
- It offers your organization an opportunity to address detected non-conformances during the CAPA process after the self-evaluation submission, which can help you be more prepared and compliant during an upcoming SCAN onsite security audit.

Option 2 - SCAN Security Audit (Self Audit): This option offers all the same benefits as the option above, with the exception that the submitted report and all program improvement recommendations can and will be made available to the SCAN Members via the SCAN Repository. This report that is shared with other SCAN members can see current and any proactive efforts that the organization is implementing. Additional differences and benefits to this option would be as follows:
- Link your facility with your client’s company in SCAN system.
- Allow SCAN Members to better understand their supply chain’s commitment to reducing risk by accessing their associated facility’s current self-evaluation, and determine when an onsite audit is required if a valid onsite audit report is not available.
- Self-audits conducted for facilities in the middle of a two-year report validity from onsite audits provide SCAN Members with the most up-to-date data, ensuring compliance with any enhanced SCAN or CTPAT requirements.
- Having current security audit reports available in the SCAN Repository enables SCAN Members to make quicker business decisions and facilitate more fluid supply chain interactions.
